Martin Kaymer At The Top After The First Day In Abu Dhabi

Martin Kaymer made a good show of his capabilities as he opened the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship of 2015 my making a spectacular eight-under 64. Kaymer has been the winner of the last 9 editions of this tournament. He made himself number 4 when he made a 10-birdie at the opener of the desert swing of the European tour.  This victory put him in the lead immediately.

It seemed that Thomas Pieters knew that he was to end day one at the top of the leader board after his name came above players like Rory Mcllory and Rickie Fowler who set the target of the clubhouse at 7-under.

The affinity that Kaymer had with the layout was proof enough once more as he had to birdie four holes out of last six and thus he replaced Thomas on the leader board. The champ at first birdied and then he made three of the four holes but then made the mistake at the ninth hole. He although covered it up by making birdies back to back at the start of the inward half.

Kaymer contracted himself at the 12th one and then again leveled up with Pieters by giving more birdies at the 13, 15 & 17. After this he made a three-wood for 15 feet which put him up for a superb chance of pulling an eagle. He did pull the eagle but the effort fell short.

To the European Tour website, Kaymer said that he feels that he putted well as he did make 10 birdies which he isn’t sure that he has ever done before on a golf course. He has made a number of fairways and he feels that his irons were sharp enough and so he had made good puts. He thinks that when someone plays like the way he did, it is very hard to make a bad score. Now, the new goal is to compare his performance with his performance tomorrow as it will be a new and brilliant start for the tournament.
